Today, Orenda Canoe Club was very excited to host dignitaries from all levels of government, the media, athletes, membership and members of the community to share in a funding announcement.
It is with great pride, The Honourable, Keith Colwell, MLA for Preston-Dartmouth, and The Honourable, Kevin Murphy, MLA for Eastern Shore, were at Orenda Canoe Club today to announce provincial funding in the amount of $608,500 towards a full scale expansion and revitalization of the facility.
Orenda would like to thank the Honourable representatives from the Province for their diligence securing the funding and attending today to make the announcement, the office of the Premier for making the funds available, the Orenda Board of Directors current and past for their foresight and persistence working with various levels of government, demonstrating the need within the community for this project, the past influential commodores and founders such as Malcolm Firth, Ralph Orton and Alan Crandlemire for building a strong and secure foundation over the past 40 years, allowing the current executive to make this project a reality. We would also like to thank Councilor David Hendsbee and The Honourable, Darrell Samson, MP Sackville, Preston, Chezzetcook for helping to secure funding in the amount of $30,000 towards our heating system upgrade for the facility which was installed this past winter. As well as the Orenda volunteers and athletes who contribute to the daily operations of the club and preparing everything for todays announcement.
Orenda will embark on a full scale facility renovation beginning immediately and will work throughout the remainder of 2017 to complete this expansion. And will do so with minimal disruption to club programs and functions.
We invite any members of the public, businesses, and membership to visit the club to view and provide feedback on the plans for the expansion as ground work starts in the next couple weeks.
As a non-profit, volunteer run facility, we rely on voluntary and donated contributions to make the facility effective and to keep programs relevant and impactful for athletes. During this renovation, anyone wishing to donate in kind construction labour or services towards the project would be greatly appreciated. Please contact, email@example.com for more information.

Orenda has a number of fun-raising events planned for 2017, and among them is the annual Auction and Dance! We know you have been waiting for it, so now you can save the date and book a babysitter!!
On Saturday May 13 (7pm - midnight) we are hosting an auction and dance at the Porters Lake Community Center. Keep in mind three things you can do to help:
The Auction supports the Club's operations, programming and athlete development. To make the fundraiser a success, we need each Orenda family to contribute 3 or more items for the auction. Donations should be collected and dropped off at the Orenda Canoe Club by May 6th. Athletes, particularly those registered in High Performance and After School training programs, are reminded of their responsibility to contribute to Orenda's fundraising events.
To help with obtaining auction donations, please see the attached letter from Michelle Lacombe, Fundraising Coordinator. You are encouraged to provide this letter to businesses or organizations, seeking their support and or a donation to our auction.
#2 Scotia Bank
Any Scotia Bank employees within the Orenda Club membership are encouraged to get in touch with me (Kelly Murphy: firstname.lastname@example.org), as there may be an opportunity for Orenda to partner with Scotia Bank on our auction fundraiser.
#3 Spread the Word
Every successful event has strong attendance, so we ask that you please please make a commitment to attend and spread the word through your networks. Encourage your friends to come, as there will be good deals, good times and good music!
If you have any questions about this event or would like to assist with organizing (as volunteers are always needed for jobs big and small), please contact Michelle Lacombe for details at email@example.com.
The Auction and Dance is always a lot of fun. Thanks for your support and we look forward to seeing you there.
